Replacing your oil tank or buying a home with oil heat? The most common question is what size tank you need. For most Long Island homes it comes down to 275 vs. 330 gallons — here's how to choose.
Think about three things: how much oil you burn (a drafty older home or a cold winter uses more), how often you want deliveries (a 330 or two tanks means fewer fills), and the space and code for where the tank sits. If you frequently run low between deliveries on a 275, stepping up to a 330 — or adding automatic delivery — smooths things out.
Whatever size you choose, the goal is to never run dry. Learn to read your gauge and reorder at a quarter tank, or skip the math entirely with automatic delivery and tank monitoring. If your current tank is old, also review the signs you need a new one.
